Quantum

Quantum is an American data storage and management company headquartered in San Jose, California. The company started in 1980 and until 2001 was one of the largest manufacturers of disk storage. In 2001, Quantum sold its hard drive business to Maxtor and now focuses on integrated storage systems. Quantum has a variety of products in the field of IT, Including high-performance file system software, tape storage, backup equipment, virtual machine data protection equipment, media asset management software and object storage. Quantum has been selling Tape Storage products, including tape drives, media and automation, since 1994, when it acquired the Digital Linear Tape product line from Digital. In 2007, Linear Tape-Openers replaced DLT. LTO is an open tape format designed for high-capacity long-term storage. This system is often used for large-scale cold storage. In 2021, Quantum partnered with IBM to develop LTO-10 tape drives and media. Following the launch of LTO in 2012, Quantum introduced its Scalar LTFS (Linear Bar File System), which offers new modes of portability and user access for content archived on LTO tape. Following the development of these two models, Quantum upgraded the Scalar LTO Tape family library in 2016 and added a tool for rich media archiving.
